What makes the Best Female Role Model?

Weird And Wonderful would love to explore why women need strong role models by revealing a few of the best ones from films of the past.

Surprising to find A study by Lockwood. P (2006) reveals the following results:

Sixty-three per cent of female students chose a woman, 75.6 per cent of male students chose a man. But crucially, whereas the male students said gender was not a factor in their choice, 27 per cent of female students who named a female role-model said that they were inspired by the gender-related obstacles overcome by their choice.

Obviously this is weird and wonderful version of role models in films. The characters each have their own strengths and I am taking this opportunity to highlight them. As female role models in certain cultures seem to be focused on plastic surgery and really superficial things.

Firstly, women really need to feel comfortable within themselves to achieve. Self – esteem is one of those important factors to wellbeing.  According to Lockwood. P (2006), the role model is based upon the self- perception.

So basically, if a woman has a very narcissistic role model – she will become like that. However if the role model becomes unsuccessful – the female may choose another role model. As Lockwood (2006) states:

“Female role models may not only be a useful example for women who are attempting to determine their potential for future achievement, they also may provide a means of undermining stereotypes that might otherwise threaten their career performance,”

Weird and wonderful would like to make this non – Gender specific, but, the best ones are not only sexy or attractive to men, but they are strong movie role models. The justification will be based on their storyline and their character strengths. I feel many of the role models the media like to franchise, lack the qualities of the characters I have chosen.

The qualities highlighted are shown like a Ciriculum Vitae (C.V.), just for fun!

I feel if you cannot list the good qualities of your own role models, then they are not actually your role models.

I feel being able to list these role models should help others to explain their strengths and find something postive within themselves.

Good luck finding decent role models.

  1. Great post. I didn’t have role model till now, never thought it was necessary. I always thought if I am closer to my goals everyday and I am better than yesterday then I am my own role model. But your post started me thinking.

    Thanks again for this post.

    • One last point. Political Role models have the same principles applied, generally.

If I break down the qualities of Hillary Clinton:

      ☆ Independent
      ☆ Negatiator
      ☆ Emotionally Resilient
      ☆ Problem solver
      ☆Intelligent
      ☆ Robust
      ☆ Diplomatic
      ☆ Humanitarian
      ☆Excellent Interpersonal Skills
      ☆Excellent Collaborative skills
      ☆Consistent
      ☆Courageous
      ☆Inspirational
      ☆Motivational
      ☆Excellent public Speaker
      ☆Dynamic
      ☆Open minded
      ☆Excellent resolving disputes or conflict.

I do not know. When females have a good role model they can mirror it makes it easier to sort of justify behavioural traits. We can be influenced by a lot of people. Finding our strengths would mean achieving goals. I feel the best role models have probably identified these qualities and worked on their strengths to become stronger.
